CITY OF MARIKINA

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9257 otherwise known as "An Act Granting Additional
Benefits and Privileges to Senior Citizens Amending for the purpose Republic Act No.
7432, otherwise known as "An Act to Maximize the Contribution of Senior Citizens to
Nation Building, Grant Benefits and Special Privileges and for other purposes", was
enacted by the Twelfth Congress to motivate and encourage senior citizens to contribute
to nation building;
WHEREAS, Section 4 (b) of Republic Act No. 9257 provides that:
SEC. 4 Privileges for the Senior Citizens. The senior citizens shall be
entitled to the following:

a minimum of twenty percent (20%o) discount on admission
fees charged by theaters, cinema houses and concert halls,
circuses, carnivals, and other similar places of culture, leisure and
omusement for the exclusive use or enjoyment of senior citizens;

WHEREAS, the City Govemment of Marikina recognizes the importance of its elderly
constituents to the continuous development of the City and deems it necessary to provide
an additional ten percent (l0o/o) discount for admission fees in cinemas all over the city;
WHEREAS, the Committee on Rules and Codification of Laws of the City Council
conducted a meeting on February 10,2009, with all cinema/theater operators in the City
regarding this matter and they all expressed their full support of the proposal in
recognition to the various contribution of the senior citizens to the programs of the city;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, AS IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the
SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD of MARIKINA CITY in session duly assembled,
that:
SECTION 1. All cinema/theater operators_in the City of Marikina are hereby directed to
grant an additional ten percent (10%) disEount on admission fees to all senior citizens of
Marikina City as follows:
a. Monday and Tuesday - from second screening onwards;
b. Wednesday to Sunday - from first screening onwards; and
c.
Holidays - from first screening onwards.
SECTION 2.The additional ten percent (lO%) discount shall be granted on top of the
original twenty percent 9n discount presently being enjoyed by the senior citizens.
SECTION 3. All senior citizens are hereby required to present their Senior Citizen's
Identification Card to avail of the discount.
SECTION 4. Penalty Clause. Any cinema/theater operator who shall fail to comply with
the provisions of this ordinance shall be meted a fine of One Thousand Pesos (PI,000.00)
for every commission of the offense.
SECTION 5. Implementing Authority. The Office of the Senior Citizen's Affairs and the
Business Permit and Licensing Office are hereby tasked to monitor the implementation of
this Ordinance.
SECTION 6. Effectiviry. This ordinance shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its
publication.
